The name 'Melaleuca', is synonymous with the remote and rugged Port Davey, southwest Tasmania. Melaleuca is the name of a paper-bark tree, a lagoon and a historic timber ketch which was once the pride and joy (and only reliable link with civilisation) of Denny King (see the book, “King of the Southwest”) and his family. This shipwright built pilothouse, cutter-rigged ketch plied the wild southwestern seas for years transporting people and goods between Hobart and Port Davey. Her sea-keeping credentials are beyond question. The current owners have lovingly restored and upgraded this fine vessel which presents in outstanding condition. They have maintained the vessel's character while adding a few modern sail handling, electronic devices and comforts below deck. “Melaleuca” is ready to cruise and with cockpit and pilothouse helms, ketch/cutter rig and foresails on furlers she can be managed short-handed.
This is a rare and special vessel that is in excellent condition. CALL Paul 0418 385 866 to arrange an INSPECTION.
“Melaleuca” is a registered Australian historic vessel.
